    I think it is better to drop the fork out (or at least turn it so that it points back into the frame) and remove the rear derailleur. The brifter lever being so close to the edge of the box is in a very vulnerable position and can be easily broken on an airline belt or in the plane as it is jostled around. The rotors can moreover be easily warped because they are right against the cardboard.

    Call me crazy but i bought a 2018 TCX and after like 4000kms, it almost replaced everything i have. It' my new favourite all-around. Of course this always depends ond the expectatives of the user, in my case i do everything but nothing competitive and that's where this bike shines for me. I barely ride my mtb now and i sold my road bike (which was kinda planned when i bought the TCX). Very good video! very insightful :)

    I hot wax with common parrafin wax with a 1:10 ratio of 1.6micron PTFE powder + a liquid form used for topups inbetween hot waxing. The cost is minimal compared to the typically over-priced mass-produced products on offer. I spend about 2 hours on hot waxing my chain, doing other things to the bike in the meantime. Making my own hot wax and permanent liquid version takes about an hour total. A pot of hot wax, as long as the chain is thoroughtly cleaned before hand, will last 6 months or more. XC riding, I hot wax around every 200kms, more if I liquid wax topup every ride. Will never buy over-priced products again, especially since the home brew I make is the same as some company's offering, but without the flashy packaging, enticing name, and marked up profit costs. I think such product are for people who think spending this small amount of time and effort on DIY is too much of a commitment, so they gravitate towards others who do the work for them, but chage an arm a and a leg for their service\product...even though the product can be created by anyone.

    I am sceptical about MIPS in this "first" (inside liner) version. I agree, for me, it also looks that you have to wear your helmet unrealisticaly tight for it to really work and make a difference. I tried on MIPS and non-MIPS helmets, and that's what I noticed. Otherwise both helmets slide on your hair similarily, but MIPS makes a helmet less comfortable and blocks some ventilation. I'd prefer this GIRO version, where the outer shell moves, Lazer Kineticore solution, or Bontrager Wavecel, those have more sense to me.

      For this project I wasn't worried about it being perfect. If you have the time and want it to last then you will want to go through the whole process. Aluminum is tricky to paint raw due to the oxidation that takes place right after it is exposed to oxygen so I decided just to paint on top of the original paint and it has actually held up better than expected.

    The one reason why I wouldn't buy any SRAM crankset (or any of the many Chinese knockoffs) is that I don't want to be forced to spend hundreds of dollars on a big-ass torque wrench for the spindle bolt.

    Hi, I know this is a bit of an old but I'm looking to have a go at this and have a question. The potential purchase is a rival 1x hrd and secondly a new LH lever blade kit which judging by the kit picture it doesn't have any parts that a shift cable will slide into. My question is, does the standard 1x lever have the drum in it already that a shift cable can slide into? Or will I need that piece?

    Old thread, but interesting, I think that the newer HG compatible SRAM Apex AXS 12 speed 11-44 is probably preferable to the previous 10-44 on the XDR freehub. It starts with 11-12-13, so nice small jumps where you need them, as pushing a larger gear is hard. You can then match this up to a 44 tooth chainring, 44 x 11 gives you exactly the same 111.4 gear inch top gear as a 40 x 10 setup, and a 1:1 lowest gear of 44 x 44. If you need lower, you need Eagle anyway probably. And it will be more efficient as well (bigger chainrings and cassette sprockets are more efficient than smaller ones). I do think on both 10-44 and 11-44 they missed a trick at the lower end, going 28-32-38-44, the gear inch changes don't increase as they should by having 4,6,6 tooth gaps, giving 5.0, 5.5 and 4.0 fewer gear inches. 28-32-37-44 would be much more logical and 4,5,7 tooth gaps giving 5.0, 4.7 and 4.8 fewer gear inches.

      Sorry for the delay. I had to take a break from UA-cam, sucking the fun out of riding and video editing, as well as a new addition to the family. I will be starting up again soon. The unit has been working great if you can get around the false positives. It is fine if you ride in rural areas where cars are passing you every minute or 2. If you are in an urban setting, it would drive you insane. For me in the countryside, it works. I have never had a false negative with the unit. As far as robustness, it has survived many muddy and rainy days where dirt and crud has been sprayed all over the unit for hours on end. If you can get a Garmin on sale, it would probably be the better option. Also Trek just came out with the Carback radar which looks promising but I do not care for the wide boxy look of it.

    • @BlackWaterCyclist
      @BlackWaterCyclist Місяць тому

      It is the Specialized SWAT box they came out with years ago for their MTBs. You have to use the Specialized Z Cage bottle cage for it to attach to the cage and then you need to have 3 bottle cage bosses on your down tube for a bolt inside the box to connect to the frame. It is great for extra storage.

    GXP was bad, for engineering reasons (floating driveside bearing, no way to preload the bearings). BB30 was even worse and has rightfully died a long time ago. PF30 wasn't quite as bad but had tiny bearings so ate those for fun. DUB tried to solve that problem by shaving 1mm off the diameter, so basically the same and almost as bad. In summary bad, badder, not as bad, not as bad. Ultimately, avoid. Sram is doing some excellent things, in mtb and road, but cranks aren't one of them. Also when you say 'bottom bracket', in reference to the frame, then you should say 'bottom bracket shell'.

    The oval should be equivalent to a slightly larger ring during the power stroke and equivalent to a slightly smaller ring during the time the pedals are more vertical. Revolution slows during applying power and speeds during less power. Best comparison should be an Oval with maybe 2 less teeth compared to the round ring. Say 30 tooth oval to 32 tooth round. That way power application remains the same but during less power application the oval ring speeds up just a bit. The advantage of the oval is the slight increased speed when less pedal power is being applied.

    On my recumbent trike I’ve never had an issue with Cycliqs on the front and rear and side mirrors. I was taught to keep perdiodically glancing at my mirrors to scan for any potential threat and react accordingly but I have thought about getting a Garmin Varia for my trailer just for that extra bit of safety however I don’t feel like it’s necessary yet. I do feel like the Fly 6 has saved me more than I probably realise because of the circling light feature letting everyone know that they are being filmed and people act differently on camera especially on the road. They give you more distance more notice and are far more weary because no one wants their stupidity all over the Internet. Several years back I was involved in a hit and run on my upright trike and I was running one of the 1st gen fly 6s and I was riding along some back roads when this company Ute comes drifting around the corner at 80km/h (on a 40km/h road) and T-bones me. Luckily I escaped only with rainbow bruising up my legs but my trike managed to spin around and capture the number plate, the company name plastered all over the car and captured the face of the driver. I was able to take the driver to court and was subsequently paid by his insurance to cover all damages plus medical and the Driver went to prison. Maybe the Varia could have told me the car was there sooner, I don’t know, But I do know that without the Cycliq I wouldn’t have been able to capture the information needed to take the culprit to court.
